Greetings, and welcome to the online home of Benjamin B. French Lodge, one of the most prominent Masonic lodges in Washington, D.C. Our lodge has long been a gathering place for Freemasons and those interested in exploring the principles of Masonry. Whether you’re an established member, new to the Craft, or simply curious, we invite you to learn more about who we are and how you can engage with our community.
Our lodge is located in the heart of Georgetown, on Wisconsin Avenue, just a short walk from the vibrant historic district. We meet every first and third Wednesday of the month, at 7:00 PM, with dinner provided at 6:00 PM for our members and guests. Parking is validated for your convenience.
A Legacy of Fellowship and Tradition
Benjamin B. French Lodge prides itself on being a traditional yet welcoming institution that blends the rich history of Freemasonry with a modern, inclusive community. We emphasize fraternal fellowship, bringing together professionals from a wide range of fields, including finance, law, engineering, medicine, IT, and more. Our members come from diverse backgrounds and countries, creating an international and vibrant atmosphere.
With a substantial endowment, the lodge offers a wide variety of intellectual, charitable, and social activities, providing something for every interest. Whether you’re joining us for a lecture, a debate, or a charity event, you’ll find an opportunity to contribute to the lodge’s rich tradition of personal and collective development.
Our Theme for the Year: “Freemasonry: A Force for Change”
This year, we focus on “Freemasonry: A Force for Change; In the Forefront, Behind the Scenes.” Our aim is to continue building on the pillars of Brotherhood, Enlightenment, and the Sacred Art through meaningful activities that engage and challenge our members.
Upcoming Events and Highlights
We have an exciting year planned, featuring events that reflect our commitment to intellectual growth, social responsibility, and Masonic tradition. Here are a few highlights:
- Annual Masonic Week Debate: Hosted at the National Press Club, the Oxford-style debate will explore the theme The Modern Mason: Visionary or Conspirator? Responding to the Challenges of the New World Order. This event is open to a limited audience, so be sure to request tickets early.
- Focused Seminar Series: We are offering three key seminars in April, June, and September on “Trends Shaping Humanity.” These will feature experts discussing pivotal social, economic, and political trends that affect us all.
- Charity and Outreach: In keeping with the values of Freemasonry, our lodge is dedicated to supporting local and international causes. We continue our support for the Project Life Orphans Program and the NIH Children’s Cancer Ward, among other charitable initiatives.
Becoming a Member
We do not solicit members; those interested in joining must take the first step by expressing their interest. Applicants must be sponsored by two existing members and will undergo a vetting process before a vote is taken. Successful candidates are initiated into the lodge and begin their journey with the mentorship of a seasoned member.
Join Us for a Meeting
If you are interested in attending one of our open meetings, we welcome your visit. Please contact us via our online feedback form or email us through the website. We are always happy to introduce potential members to the lodge and its activities.
Our History and Tradition
Named after Benjamin B. French, a prominent Mason who contributed greatly to the district, our lodge has a long and distinguished history. Brother French was involved in many key Masonic events, including the laying of the Washington Monument cornerstone, and was a key figure in American Masonic history during the 19th century. His legacy continues to inspire our lodge’s commitment to Freemasonry’s values. Thank you for visiting. We invite you to explore our website and learn more about our events, history, and programs. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Fraternally Yours,
Brother Carl Williams, Webmaster
